BVI YACHT CHARTERS GIRLS SUPPORT COLOR ME PINK RUN/WALK FOR A CAUSE
On Saturday morning the streets in Road Town, Tortola turned pink and colourful for the BVI’s Color Me Pink 5k Run/Walk. The run is a fundraiser event to promote breast cancer awareness and generating over $15,000 towards free mammograms for women in the territory. Our BVI Yacht Charters girls Kirstie and Els were there to support the cause.
The program was established several years ago by Sensus Gym owner Lisa Adamson, who noticed that the BVI did not have a free cancer screening for women. To date, over 800 women have benefited from the free mammograms, which are essential lifesaving examinations that can detect early forms of breast cancer.
Prior to the run, participants were sprayed with water and bombs of coloured powder were thrown to the crowd so that everyone could get truly pink and colourful. Special designed T-shirts and tutu’s were also part of the fun outfit.
The event drew over 300 male and female participants of all ages who completed the 5k race, smiling running for a truly worthwhile cause.
Kirstie and Els commented:
“We both have breast cancer history in our close-by families and we are extremely proud to be able to show our support to the people in our community who are suffering and celebrate our survivors today. We created more awareness of this terrible disease in the BVI and it is so important to continue on with the fight against breast cancer.
There’s no doubt about it, early detection saves lives”
