Charter guest Tgitte Nauta crossed the Atlantic between Europe and the BVI for the first time as part of the delivery crew for Bruno, our new Beneteau Oceanis 55.
This was his first time crossing the Atlantic, so he was bleary eyed on arrival at the dock, and very happy to see land. Bruno left from Les Sables d’Olonne, a seaside town in the West of France on the 29th of October. They headed south across the Bay of Biscay, arriving in La Coruna, a busy port in the North-Western corner of Spain, on the 1st of November.
After a short pit stop they continued south, down the west coast of Africa, reaching Las Palmas, Gran Canaria on the 10th of November where they stopped for a couple of days.
After one last landfall in the Cape Verde Islands on the 19th of November and a final chance to prep the boat and crew, they finally set sail for the BVI, on the 20th of November.
After 16 days at sea, Bruno sailed into the Sir Francis Drake Channel, and landed at the BVI Yacht Charters base in Road Harbor at about 3pm on a lovely sunny and calm afternoon.
Tgitte thought the whole experience was wonderful. When he wasn’t on watch, he spent his time fishing for dinner and catching Dorado, Bonito, Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo. Their best catch was a 2 1/2 foot Dorado pictured here!
They still had some in the freezer when they arrived in the BVI!
When asked about his first experience on a trans-Atlantic delivery he said: “It was Fantastic! My favorite thing about it was knowing that I had 2 miles of water beneath me, and seeing nothing but waves for 6 miles all around me.”
He also stated that if we had another Beneteau Oceanis 55 that needed to go back to the Med, he would happily go tomorrow! He loved the boat, and enjoyed crossing the Atlantic in such luxury. Tgitte can be seen in the centre of the picture below, enjoying his first glass of champagne with the rest of the crew, taken next to the Christmas tree in the BVI YC office.
We always have yachts heading across the Atlantic and between the BVI and the USA at the beginning and the end of the Winter season. We make a few select berths available for charter guest every year.
