It’s a well-known fact that the crew at BVI Yacht charters are Animal Lovers. We are no strangers to caring for our local four legged friends, offering them food, shelter, veterinary care and cuddles.
2 years ago, after the storms we gave 5 stray dogs shelter and food on our docks, until we could transport them to the USA, where they all found a loving forever home! Read more about this story here.
Nowadays, 3 BVIYC girls are dedicating lots of hours in helping our local BVI Animal Shelter, the Humane Society of the BVI, which is in desperate need of towels.
So after finding out what they really need, we have started a ‘Towel Drive’ scheme:
BRING A TOWEL, DONATE A TOWEL
It’s simple: Bring your beach towels with you, and leave them behind when you go home. A bucket is placed outside our office for you to drop them in. We will launder them and deliver them to the Animal Shelter.
The towels will be used for washing, bathing, sleeping and snuggling.
The BVI Humane Society is an entirely non-profit and non-government funded organization, founded by members of the community in 1975. After the devastating hurricanes last year, the shelter was left with just the 4 walls that framed it.
Still in the process of rebuilding, the Animal Shelter needs our help! By leaving your towel behind, you can help to aid in the recovery of the BVI, and help keep those tails wagging!
HOW YOU CAN HELP EVEN MORE…
A few towels would be fantastic and really would help out, but you can help more! Pet supplies are much cheaper in the USA, so maybe you can bring a few items with you in your luggage for the Puppies, Kittens, Dogs and Cats of the Animal Shelter. Anything is welcome! We are thinking about small dog or cat toys, treats, shampoo, collars, leashes, tick & flee medication, Heartguard, etc.
If you do not have room in your luggage, then another option could be buying a few cans or bags of dog food with your provisioning shopping and leave them at our front desk.
PUPPY ESCORT NEEDED
The Humane Society receives lots of stray puppies that need a forever home. Some will get adopted on island, but most will be fostered in volunteer’s homes until they can fly to the United States. There they will have a better chance of finding a good home. PAW BVI organizes the fostering, the medical attention the puppies need (vaccination, deworming etc.) and the transport to the US.
If you fly to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale and would help with bringing a pup with you as carry-on on your flight, then we can arrange that with PAW BVI. They will pay for any extra cost of your flight and will arrange all other things like paperwork, carry-on bag, food, puppy pads and – very important – collection at the airport by another Animal Shelter on your arrival.
If you fly to other cities in the US and want to bring a pup with you, please let us know and we can find out with PAW BVI what is possible.
If you would like more information on how you can support the Humane Society of the BVI, by the way of volunteer work, donations or flight escorts please don’t hesitate to contact us or them directly at humane@surfbvi.com .

I have chartered in the BVI’s and absolutely love the islands and the people. Please email me a physical address for the shelter. My family and I will look in to sending food for the animals at the shelter.
