Some 300 miles south of the BVI lie St Vincent and the Grenadines – one of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world, with 32 islands and cays, and a diversity of terrain, culture and amenities that are rarely seen in one location – and, although the islands lie close together, each has a unique character of its own.
BVI Yacht Charters has worked closely with colleagues in St Vincent & the Grenadines for many years, and one of our staff has more than 30 years experience operating charter yachts there.
The main island of St Vincent has lush terrain with mountains, rain forest, waterfalls that you can swim under, deserted beaches and incredibly friendly people. The Grenadines, lying on St Vincent’s doorstep, offer some of the finest beaches, snorkeling and diving in the Caribbean, and inter-island sailing distances are short, generally from 1 to 4 hours.
Getting Here
St Vincent has an international airport (airport code SVD) and there are direct flights from New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), Toronto (TOR) and London (LGW).
There are also many direct flights from other major European and North American cities to Barbados (BGI) and from there it’s a short hop across to St Vincent.
When we have our guests’ flight information, we’ll organize a taxi to meet you on arrival and take you to Blue Lagoon Marina, about 20 minutes’ drive.
Blue Lagoon Marina is a full-service marina with a boutique hotel, 3 restaurants and bars, and a provisioning store.
Itinerary
A great one-week itinerary, with approximate inter-island sailing times, would be –
Day 1 Sail to Mustique – 2.5 hrs. Home to the rich and famous – don’t be surprised if you bump into Mick Jagger or Richard Branson while sipping a rum punch at world-famous Basil’s Bar.
Day 2 Sail to Salt Whistle Bay, Mayreau – 3.5 hrs. A picture-perfect anchorage with a gorgeous beach and a short walk up the hill, a picturesque village with stunning views – on a clear day, you can see from St Vincent in the North to Grenada in the south.
This gets you to all the high spots of the Grenadines. Although the islands are close together, you’ll find that they each have a unique character of their own – and in all of them you’ll find superb anchorages with moorings available, wonderful beaches and snorkeling and super-friendly locals.
