MORE DETAILS ON WISH YOU WERE HERE
Wish You Were Here is our newest Lucia 40 catamaran (2020). She is available for charter in the BVI from the 15th of October 2020.
The emphasis of the Lucia 40 is its sailing performance. With just over 1,000 square feet of sail area between the genoa and the mainsail, the 20,000-pound cat performs well and even with the bigger sails, sailhandling is easy.
-
Lucia 40 – Main features
- Low boom for easy access to the main.
- The decks are wide and flat with all flush hatches.
- Semi fly-bridge or raised helm station for good visibility all around.
- Multiple social areas including sundeck on the coachroof and the forward deck.
- Huge 130-square-foot cockpit with a table that comfortably seats 8-10.
- Two large walk around island berths in the aft cabins.
- Huge opening front windows in the saloon for ventilation and a skylight in the roof.
Lucia 40 – Accommodations
This catamaran offers a luxurious interior similar to the larger models. The accommodations are extremely spacious with lots of storage and walk around island berths in the aft cabins. Each hull has two cabins with a shared heads and separate shower in each hull. The salon is on the same level as the cockpit. There is no step down or up, making it a much safer boat and the salon is surprisingly spacious for a boat of only 40 feet. The L-shaped settee can seat 6 around a coffee table and the settee also creates a seat for the angled navigation station, eliminating the need for a separate nav seat. The galley opens up to the cockpit, so its nice and airy and communication flows feely with the cockpit. It comes with 2 large stainless steel refrigeration drawers, a very nice feature, and the separate counter-height oven is a nice touch.
LUCIA 40 – ON DECK
The elevated helm has access from the deck as well as from the cockpit, and provides perfect visibility of all 4 corners of the boat. The double helm seat is comfortable with easy access to the coachroof. The foredeck has two lockers under a sun pad; one for the water tank and the other for the windlass and line stowage. The sun pad is in addition to the spacious trampoline. The decks are wide, and the hatches are flush, making moving around easy.
The Lucia 40 is the ideal boat for a family or smaller group of friends, looking for the comfort and luxury of a big boat, but the price point of a smaller vessel.

“As usual, arrived the day before departure, provisioning at the nearby supermarket, getting everything into the coolers over night, and do as much pre-work as possible the day before in order to leave before noon the following day. The dedicated BVIYC staff made that possible and this is not to be taken for granted. Anyone who knows the charter business expects delays. But we were able to head out early and besides pro-active technicians, this can probably be attributed to the fact, that BVIYC’s yachts are practically brand new. Even those who scratch on the 4-year maximum age, are serviced so well and presented so spotless and clean, that you feel like stepping on board at a boat show every time. It is incredible!
Our boat was immaculate and sailed so well (just like most of the Fountaine Pajot range), feeling very light-weight and agile, making 50-60% of the windspeed at every angle (even 30 degrees!). All systems on board were 100% reliable and we had not a single worry the entire 10 days cruising. This time we went clock-wise around Tortola, which we highly recommend (seemed like we were going a bit against the grain, thus more empty anchorages and beaches), and we even went back to Jost Van Dyke at the end a second time just because how much we loved to sail the Lucia 40, doing the loop about 120% and back to Peter Island for the last night.
Until the post-hurricane developments on the eastern side of North Sound / Virgin Gorda are completed (probably Q3/2020 and into 2021), just spend more time at other magnificent spots, like Guana Island (see photo) and Cooper Island (some of the best dining opportunities). Definitely get a boatyball.com account (especially for Cooper island)! Finally the mooring reservation service many sailors have been waiting for. All in all – if you want the newest, best performing yachts you can charter in the BVI – go with BVIYC!” – Andreas Kisslinger, November 2019, SLOW POKE
